Suisun Valley Vintners and Growers Assn is hosting the first of several grower seminars this June 17th at Vintage Caffe with a presentation from the Wine Institute on the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance and it’s program on Sustainable Winegrowing self assessment and certification. This program is provided at no cost to Assn members.
The California wine industry has been moving towards greater integration of sustainable practices in the vineyard that can be conveyed to the consumer via packaged wine. Now, larger winery buyers are indicating that certification in sustainable practices may be required for grape contracting as their wine marketing programs stake claims to such.
The flier mailed to membership earlier on this seminar is posted below.

This program has been implemented to bring information and understanding to Suisun Valley Grape Growers who need or desire to become certified as Sustainable under the Code of Sustainable Winegrowing Practices. With some of the larger wineries seeking, or even requiring, certified sustainable status for contracting this is a very timely presentation
Self-Assessment:
All vineyard and winery managers, principles, and other personnel are invited to a free workshop to assess their winery and/or vineyard operations using the Code of Sustainable Winegrowing Practices Self-Assessment workbook.
- If you have a workbook, please bring it with the previously mailed update packet inserted.
- First-time participants will receive the workbook (no charge).
Certification:
We will provide an overview of the new voluntary certification program, Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing. For those who want more information on how to obtain certification, we will review the guidelines and steps necessary for certification. Self-assessment of your vineyard and/or winery is the first step to obtaining certification.
