PD/GWSS – vote your ballot

First some apologies for long delay in posts here, we have been busy building content into a Facebook Fan Page for Suisun Valley and gaining Fans. Success there is now getting back to the SVVGA Blog.

First order of business for grape growers throughout California is to vote the referendum ballots. Reports from CDFA, conducting this election for the continuation of the PD/GWSS program assessment, indicate that just 5% of ballots have been voted and returned. The election must gain at least 40% of ballots to be valid.

For Growers, regardless of your position on this referendum, voting and mailing your ballots is needed. For further information check with CAWG.ORG or the website www.protectyourvineyard.com

Further a Solano County Ag Commissioner general meeting for grape growers is being held April 29th to overview the situation with European Grapevine Moth, Light Brown Apple Moth and PD/GWSS monitoring and management. This is a highly relevant meeting and all growers are encouraged to attend.

UPDATES TO ACTIVITIES:

Passport Sunday, coming April 18th has sold out once again, with an increase in tickets to 400. Participating wineries have restaurants preparing pairings with their wines on site. Check the www.suisunvalley.com site for more information.

Grower Seminars are in planning for SVVGA members. Efforts are under way to develop a seminar on gaining certified sustainable winegrower status under programs created by CAWG and Wine Institute or under the “Lodi Rules” program. It will focus on the documentation requirements. A second is in works for composting materials for vineyards.

Suisun Valley is in the midst of developing new visitor marketing programs under the lead of SVVGA Marketing Committee. Much of this will focus to ‘Wine Country” positioning but to include direct to consumer venues for other agriculture products and visitor services such as restaurant and accommodations. This effort is being extensively funded by final grants from the Suisun Valley Fund.
