Suisun Valley has gained an olive oil processor and tasting room, recently opening and receiving it’s first fruit. Il Fiorello Olive Oil Company has been started by Ann and Mark Sievers.
Suisun Valley saw the first commercial planting of olive trees for oil just this decade with several major blocks planted. The interest in olive oil continued with others and the first press (mill), a Pieralisi Italian Olive Mill capable of 1,800 lbs per hour, was installed over the summer/fall of 2009.
Focused to Italian varietals such as Leccino, Frontoio, Pendolino, Moraiolo, Picual and more, a selection of individual oils and blends are now on sale. Olio Nuovo from the 09 harvest is also coming available for the Holidays. The recent estate planting of additional varietals will build on existing blocks planted in neighboring Green Valley.
The tasting room offers tours and tastings currently by appointment. Oils are carefully explained and presented in a sensible progression of flavors.
For those who have an olive tree or two, there is a community press day set for the end of November. The olives, needing to be freshly picked and free of olive fly larve, are all consolidated from the days deliveries and pressed as a lot. Individuals receive back a pro rated portion of oil to their inbound portion of fruit and pay a process fee based upon the weight of the fruit delivered.
Custom contract processing will also be provided to growers from inside and outside the area as Il Fiorello moves forward. To find more information or make appt for tour email oil@ilfiorello.com or call 707-864-1529. Il Fiorello is located at 2625 Mankas Corner Road, Fairfield, CA 94534
